Remake Recon: Miracle On 34th Street

Being deep into the holiday season inevitably I’ll stumble onto some holiday films and specials. Of course one of the biggest Christmas films of all-time is 1947’s Miracle On 34th Street.

The classic film starring Maureen O’Hara, Natalie Wood and Edmund Gween as Kris Kringle always gets reliable airplay around this time of year. Of course being such a beloved, popular film it’s ripe for remake status by Hollywood. So I decided to take another look at the original and see how the 1994 remake by producer/writer John Hughes compares.

One thing I always found ironic about the original is even way back in 1947 consumerism usurping the spirit of Christmas was a complaint people had. Sixty years later the film still holds up.

Hey, don’t fuck with Mara Wilson! Remember what happened last time an Internet reviewer did that.
