Superhero Films – Wonder Woman (1975)

Lynda Carter Wonder Woman DC Comics superhero

Lynda Carter lassos herself into the hearts of superhero fans the world over!

The most famous female superhero ever spins onto television sets in 1975. After a rocky start beginning with a failed TV movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby, ABC Television decides to rethink the idea of a Wonder Woman television series and makes some changes.

Wearing the iconic costume, wielding a magic lasso and flying an invisible plane, Lynda Carter becomes the embodiment of the character. Attracting an eclectic base of fans from young women to little boys who suddenly realize maybe all girls aren’t so icky.

The pilot TV movie set during WWII tells the story of Princess Diana who leaves the all-female populated Paradise Island and travels to the U.S. where she encounters a never-ending stream of criminals that only she can save us from.

With Steve Trevor (Lyle Waggoner) at her side (what guy didn’t envy him getting to be saved by Wonder Woman all the time) she takes television audiences on an adventure every week.

Lasting three seasons and eventually a setting change to modern day, Wonder Woman and Lynda Carter would become forever linked in the eyes of fans.
